A Guide to the Freshwater and Terrestrial Habitats of the Northeast
Partnering with the Northeast State Fish and Wildlife Agencies and the North Atlantic LCC, The Nature Conservancy has
created a guide to the terrestrial and freshwater habitats of the
northeastern United States, based on the Terrestrial Habitat Map project and the Northeast Aquatic Classification
Project. Using available biological and environmental data, ecologists have identified and mapped habitat types at regionally useful scales, with attributes of condition information attached to each type.
The Nature Conservancy organized the different habitat types by
summary group, and separated them by NatureServe's macrogroups. TNC then provided key statistics about the status and distribution of each habitat, and gave an overall view of what the habitat looks like, what species live there, where one could go to see it, and some indication of its condition. Each habitat gets a two-page spread showing this information.
