The
Mid-Atlantic Region includes the coastal and offshore waters of the states of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. This region is home to over 34 million people, who benefit from its productive ocean ecosystem for many activities, including fishing, tourism, energy production, telecommunication, and transportation.
Marine Assessments
- The
Northwest Atlantic Marine Ecoregional Assessment (NAMERA) synthesized comprehensive data on species distributions, geology, oceanography, chemistry, biology and social science from Cape Hatteras in North Carolina to the northern limit of the Gulf of Maine in Canadian waters.

- The
Long-Island Sound Ecological Assessment (LISEA) is the first of its kind for the submerged areas of Long Island Sound. It enhances the spatial understanding of the Sound’s submerged habitats and in so doing contributes to the body of knowledge needed to help reduce potential future conflicts between and among human uses and ecologically significant resources.

- In 2011, the
Delaware River Basin Conservation Initiative completed a blueprint to ensure the long-term viability and health of ecosystems across Delaware river and Bay. As part of this effort, a suite of ecosystems and habitat-forming species were examined.
