Latest On The Conservation Gateway

A well-managed and operational Conservation Gateway is in our future! Marketing, Conservation, and Science have partnered on a plan to rebuild the Gateway into the organization’s enterprise content management system (AEM), with a planned launch of a minimal viable product in early FY26. Threatened and Endangered

The Boardman Conservation Area protects over 23,000 acres of imperiled shrub-stepped habitat in the Columbia Basin Ecoregion. The property is home to several species considered rare or threatened including the Washington ground squirrel, a listed species under the Oregon Endangered Species Act. TNC regularly surveys ground squirrel populations using novel monitoring techniques including scent dogs to find these elusive animals (Watch a video here). You can find recent reports on Washington ground squirrel surveys here.

TNC also monitors populations of sensitive bird species, including sagebrush sparrows, ferruginous hawks, and loggerhead shrikes, all of which are dependent on shrub-steppe ecosystems in Oregon and are increasingly rare in the Columbia Basin Ecoregion. Monitoring reports are available for each of these species.
