Mitigating the Effects of Energy Development
Energy development in the natural gas, coal, and wind sectors is transforming the landscape and communities of the Central Appalachians and challenges the resilient natural systems that support rich biodiversity and provide clean, reliable water supplies, outdoor recreation opportunities, and other benefits for millions of people. Developing and delivering these energy resources require a vast infrastructure network, and activities during construction, operations, and maintenance can alter natural habitats, impact wildlife, and challenge the health of our freshwater systems.
The Nature Conservancy uses partnerships and the best available science to provide tools and resources that can lessen energy development impacts, improve energy efficiency, and help keep our lands and waters healthy and productive while meeting our energy needs.
