Using Drones to Improve Our
Understanding of Fire Behavior
Sycan Marsh Preserve ~ Oregon FLN
Notes from the Field are
brief updates on activities from the Fire Learning Network, Fire Adapted
Communities Learning Network, Indigenous Peoples Burning Network and Prescribed
Fire Training Exchanges.
This issue gives a brief overview of how unmanned aerial systems (UAS), or
drones, can be used to study fire behavior. In the fall of 2018, a Big Coyote
Fuels Reduction Project burn on the Sycan Marsh Preserve hosted a team
researching the use of UAS; the first paper on that research was published in
the spring of 2019.
