Latest On The Conservation Gateway

A well-managed and operational Conservation Gateway is in our future! Marketing, Conservation, and Science have partnered on a plan to rebuild the Gateway into the organization’s enterprise content management system (AEM), with a planned launch of a minimal viable product in late 2024. Reduction of wind and swell waves by mangroves
McIvor, A. L., Möller, I., Spencer, T., and Spalding, M. 2012. Natural Coastal Protection Series: Report 1: The Nature Conservancy and Wetlands International.

This report begins by reviewing the capacity of mangroves to attenuate wind and swell waves. It examines evidence for wave attenuation in mangroves, and reviews the factors affecting the rate of attenuation with distance. The authors then consider models that have been used to predict wave attenuation, and report on what information is needed in order to use these models. In addition, the report examines how these models have been used to plan the use of mangroves in coastal defense strategies.
