The Nature Conservancy is working to enhance protection of rich marine resources and security for people in the Western Indian Ocean where approximately 30 million people rely on marine resources to fuel the economy and feed their families.
We are working to establish a “fish to market” program in coastal Kenya that will reduce the expense of fish delivery inland, increase profits for fishermen, while incenting sustainable fishing practices. We are also part of a USAID-funded consortium that is looking to build a regional network of marine conservation sites that will integrate land, mangrove and estuary protection efforts to increase productivity in the Western Indian Ocean.
