Latest On The Conservation Gateway

A well-managed and operational Conservation Gateway is in our future! Marketing, Conservation, and Science have partnered on a plan to rebuild the Gateway into the organization’s enterprise content management system (AEM), with a planned launch of a minimal viable product in late 2024. If you’re interested in learning more about the project, reach out to megan.sheehan@tnc.org for more info!

Miradi - a Swahili word meaning "project" or "goal" – was built as an open source tool to help conservation practitioners to design, manage, monitor, and learn from their projects to more effectively meet their conservation goals and objectives. Miradi supports The Nature Conservancy’s Conservation by Design process (as well its predecessors, Conservation Business Planning process, the Conservation Action Planning [CAP] process) and the Conservation Measures Partnership’s Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation including steps such as:

  • defining the project scope
  • assessing the viability of focal conservation targets
  • creating conceptual models to assess the social, economic and cultural context
  • prioritizing threats
  • developing objectives and actions
  • creating results chains to clarify and test assumptions about strategies
  • designing and tracking measures of strategy effectiveness.

Miradi will help you manage and store the information generated as you plan and adaptively implement your project. In addition to project planning, Miradi supports the development of annual and long-term work plans, budgets, and other tools.

Miradi Share is a new cloud-based software system that serves as a searchable repository of Miradi projects that enables conservation practitioners, managers, and funders to design, manage, monitor, and learn from collections of related projects that make up a program.

Miradi is a not-for-profit venture between the Conservation Measures Partnership (CMP – which includes TNC as a core member) and Sitka Technology Group.
